About Vet The News
Military and veteran news, written for the people it actually affects.
Why We Exist
Military news is scattered across dozens of publications, wire services, and government releases. Most coverage is written for general audiences and buries the details that matter most to service members — which pay grades are affected, which components it applies to, what you should do right now.
Vet The News was built to fix that. Every story we cover is written to answer the questions a soldier, sailor, airman, guardian, Marine, or Coast Guardsman would actually ask: Does this affect me? What changes? What do I do next?
What We Cover
We track military pay and benefits, Pentagon and DoD policy, VA and veteran affairs, defense technology, transition and careers, and service life — from PCS moves to promotion board changes to GI Bill updates. Our coverage spans active duty, Guard, Reserve, veterans, and military families.
We monitor Military Times, Defense News, Task & Purpose, Stars and Stripes, Air & Space Forces Magazine, Military.com, and other trusted defense outlets. Every article links to the original source.
Editorial Standards
- Accuracy first. We do not publish if the source cannot support the claim. When facts are uncertain, we say so.
- No clickbait. Headlines describe the story. We do not exaggerate or editorialize in titles.
- Military specificity. We name the ranks, pay grades, MOSs, components, and installations affected — not just “service members.”
- Actionable where possible. If there’s something readers should do — check myPay, submit a form, call a number — we include it.
- Source attribution. Every article credits the original reporting and links to the full story.
Who’s Behind This
Vet The News was founded by Robert, a U.S. military veteran and defense journalist. After years covering the Pentagon, defense policy, and veteran affairs — and years of watching military news get written for general audiences instead of the people actually affected by it — the site was built to do it right. That means naming the specific ranks and components involved, explaining the practical consequences, and telling readers what to actually do with the information.
The site exists because service members, veterans, and military families deserve coverage that respects their time and treats them as informed adults — not just another demographic to reach.
Our Coverage Process
Our editorial team monitors military and defense news sources continuously. Articles are written and edited to highlight what matters most to the military community — practical implications, affected populations, and next steps. We do not republish source text. Every piece is original editorial work produced by our staff.
